Luncheon applauds city’s rescue efforts

The Holly Springs mayor and board of aldermen held an appreciation luncheon for fire, police, street and utility workers Tuesday of last week as a way of saying “thank you” to employees.

Projects hit bump

Holly Springs officers investigate grand larceny

Officers with the Holly Springs Police Department are investigating a grand larceny in the 100 block of Rust Avenue last week in which over $19,000 in computer and television equipment is missing, according to chief Robert Pearson.

Hurdle receives plaque

Walker Hurdle, Citizens Bank of Byhalia, is presented a plaque from Chamber Board president, Bill Kinkade, for his outstanding contribution to the Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce at the recent quarterly chamber luncheon. Hurdle served six terms on the board of directors of the chamber. Also receiving an award was Bill Welch, CenturyTel,who was not present at the meeting.The luncheon was held at the First Baptist Church of Byhalia with over 85 members and guests attending. A wonderful lunch was prepared by the kitchen committee of the church.The program was presented by John LoPreto Jr., owner of Solomon Strategic Advisors of Byhalia, who gave valuable advice on the Mom and Pop businesses, how to keep them running and to grow.

Policeman sworn in

Rick & Angie Massengill of Byhalia are proud to announce that their son William Wilson, 22 had the distinct honor of being sworn in by Mayor Whitney J. “Buck” Chambers on April 9 at the Piperton Police Department.

Firefighter, veteran honored

Eunice Holbrook, wife of Emmett Holbrook, receives a U.S. flag prior to the burial of her husband April 10 at Hill Crest Cemetery in Holly Springs. Holbrook was an Army veteran and served more than 40 years as a volunteer firefighter for the City of Holly Springs. He also has three sons who are firemen – Kenny, Henry and Jeff – and a fourth son, Clifford. Other firemen, friends and family members are also pictured.

Church open for Pilgrimage

After three years of restoration work begun in 2005 by the Town and Country Garden Club, the 1837 Sabbath School Church will be open for Pilgrimage, according to Jean Ann Jones with the club.

Hollowell picked for leadership institute

Holy Family School in Holly Springs got some exciting news last week.

Brianna Hollowell, daughter of Belinda McDonald, was chosen as one of the few eighth graders statewide to participate in the 2008 Lott Leadership Institute training in June.
