Cardinals in hunt for post-season
By BARRY BURLESON
Potts Camp went to Coldwater Monday (after the deadline for this week’s sports section) with a good shot at the baseball playoffs.
A win over Coldwater or even a loss by less than eight runs would land coach Michael Loden’s team in the Class A post-season as the district’s fourth-place team.
“Hopefully we can take care of business and get in,” said Loden, in his first season at the Marshall County school. “It will give us something to build on.”
Sixteen of the 24 players on the Potts Camp roster are in seventh, eighth and ninth grades.
“We’re very young, so getting into the playoffs and getting that experience would help,” Loden said.
The Cardinals stood 3-6 in the district and 6-14 overall before Monday’s game versus Coldwater.
Last week Potts Camp suffered road losses to Myrtle, 16-0; Hickory Flat, 14-4; and Falkner, 9-4.
The playoffs begin this weekend with a best two of three series. The Cardinals would play at home Friday and travel Saturday.
