MA takes trophies in first track meet of year

Marshall Academy began its track season at home March 29 with the varsity girls and junior high boys placing first and the varsity boys and junior high girls finished second.

After Saturday evening, I can only surmise that everyone is either completely satiated or thoroughly dissatisfied with the games in the semi-finals of the NCAA. And if you didn’t have a particular favorite, then you have to admit, without guile, that this was NCAA basketball at its best.
Northwest hosts rodeo April 17-19

More than a hundred college rodeo athletes will participate in an Ozark Region Rodeo April 17-19 when Northwest Mississippi Community College hosts a three-day event at the Multipurpose Livestock Arena at the college farm.
Jenkins, Jones make first team
A coach and three players from Marshall County have been honored on the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal’s All-Area Basketball Team for 2007-08.
Jason Thompson of H.W. Byers was named the girls Coach of the Year. He led the Lady Lions to the Class 2A state championship. They finished with a 35-5 record.
Nutt to headline Northwest banquet

New University of Mississippi head football coach Houston Nutt will be the featured speaker at the Northwest Community College Sports Hall of Fame banquet on Thursday, May 15 at 6:30 p.m.
Lady Pats host hitting clinic Sunday, May 4
The Marshall Academy softball team will host the Lady Patriots’ Fast Pitch Hitting Clinic on Sunday, May 4.
Cost is $40 per player. Times are 2 p.m to 4 p.m. for grades 7-12 and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for grades 1-6.
The clinic, hosted by the defending state AA champions, will be conducted by Kara Ross, director of softball at the Gameday Sports Academy in Memphis, Tenn. Each player will be instructed on hitting fundamentals, bunting, hitting the inside and outside pitches and the proper slide techniques.
