Jenkins, Jones make first team

A coach and three players from Marshall County have been honored on the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal’s All-Area Basketball Team for 2007-08.

Jason Thompson of H.W. Byers was named the girls Coach of the Year. He led the Lady Lions to the Class 2A state championship. They finished with a 35-5 record.

Selected to the girls first team all-area squad were sophomore forward Kenyotta Jenkins of Potts Camp and junior guard Rachel Jones of H.W. Byers. Picked as a member of the second team was senior forward Simone Ryan of Byers.

From Benton County, senior forward Kortny Tucker of Hickory Flat was named to the girls third team.

Roy Hazzle of Aberdeen was chosen as the boys Coach of the Year. He led the Bulldogs to the Class 3A state championship.

Named Players of the Year were Latavious Williams of Starkville and Di’Amber Johnson of Pontotoc.
