Potts Camp battling for playoff spot By BARRY BURLESON Editor Potts Camp evened its district record at 3-3 last week. Coach
Michael Loden’s baseball team knocked off Coldwater Tuesday at home and
then picked up two wins via forfeit to Ashland on Friday. Loden said his team has a good shot at a playoff berth. The top four in the division advance. “Hopefully we can get in (the playoffs) and that will give this young team something to build on,” he said. The Cardinals defeated Coldwater 11-4 with Cody Watts recording the mound win. The game was called in the sixth inning due to rain. Dustin Minor tripled for the Cardinals. Potts Camp scored five of its 11 runs in the third inning. Coach
Loden said Ashland called Friday afternoon and said it could not make
the trip to Potts Camp for the twinbill because it did not have enough
players. “We needed to play worse than we needed the forfeits,” he said. The Cardinals then wrapped up the week Saturday with a pair of non-district setbacks - 27-0 to Ripley and 13-0 to East Union. “We’re a better team than that (versus Ripley),” Loden said. “We just have to make up our minds to play.” He said his team then played a much better game versus a good East Union squad. “It was a tough day overall, but we’re young and making progress,” Loden said. “We’re getting there.” Schedule The
Cardinals (6-9 overall) were scheduled to visit Hickory Flat Tuesday.
They play at Myrtle Friday at 5 p.m. Both are district games. “It would be nice to get one or two of those,” Loden said. They host East Union Saturday at 3 p.m. and then play West Union at home next Tuesday, April 8, at 5 p.m.
