Byhalia police go to 51 calls The Byhalia Police Department responded to 51 calls during the past week. Chief
Gary Looney released the following report – three alarm calls, six
motor vehicle accidents, two burglaries, one disturbance, one theft,
eight escorts, two animal-related calls, nine assist, nine medical
assistance calls, two fires and eight miscellaneous calls. Byhalia police officers also made five arrests on the following charges: - Warrant, Byhalia, failure to appear.

Man dies in accident By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Michael
A. Easter, 43, was killed in a highway accident on U.S. 78 at the 32
mile marker Sunday, according to county coroner James R. Anderson. Easter was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner was called at 12:56 p.m. March 30 and was on the scene at 1:25 p.m. Easter is from Monroe County and his address is Caledonia. He
was driving westbound on U.S. 78 when he lost control of his 2007 Honda
Civic and struck the pillars of an old Illinois Central railroad
overpass east of Holly Springs, Anderson said. Fire chief Ken Holbrook said the car hydroplaned, left the road and struck the bridge. Fire calls Holbrook reported 41 other runs for the weeks of March 17-31, including: - One structure fire. A storage shed caught fire by a runaway controlled burn.
- 11 grass fires that were not controlled burns.
- 22 medical assistance calls.
- One false alarm.
- Two motor vehicle accidents.
- Two motor vehicle accidents with extrication.
- One fuel spill.
- One report of a burned out vehicle on Highway 178 East.
