My fire for journalism was rekindled Friday.
I spent the majority of the day critiquing high school newspapers at the Mississippi Scholastic Press Association Convention. Beth Fitts, director of MSPA, invited me several months ago.

I think I was 15 in 1968. Life was good. One of my best friends, Cecilia, had just gotten her driver’s license and her dad drove a big ole black Buick. He also allowed Cecilia to drive the big ole black Buick.

The newsletter from the old church in Chicago I served 22 years ago still wends its way down to me. Coming by third class mail, the news is often dated, but this many years later, I am surprised at how many people I still know. Two sisters I thought very old then are still in charge of the Women’s Federation!

It is rare for me to read something in the paper that brings me to the edge of tears. But last week’s letter by Joey Miller did that. While I’m much older, the place in time he paid tribute to was part of my childhood also.
