Stith took it all in stride this spring when she became the first
student ever at Rust College to hold the dual role of Miss Rust College
and Student Government Association president. Stith is a native of
Shannon, where she was reared by her grandmother, Annie Bell Stith, an
alumna of Rust College and former school teacher. Beloved mail carrier Roger Clayton to retire March 22 On
March 28, 1998, Roger Clayton will celebrate his 55th birthday. He will
also be retiring from the Potts Camp Post Office that day. Roger went
to work there on Jan. 2, 1967. He has carried the mail on the same
route for over 31 years. In 1997, he was voted Carrier of the Year. Greg Taylor selected for Walton business award Greg
Taylor, president of Merchants & Farmers Bank, has been selected to
receive the Sam Walton Business Leader Award, sponsored by the Wal-Mart

Foundation. 50 Years Ago - March 27, 1958 Participates in two-month maneuvers Army
PFC Harold B. Palmer, 23, whose wife Maxine lives in Waterford,
recently returned to Ft. Lewis, Wash., after participating in a
two-month maneuver with the 39th Infantry at Ft. Greely, Alaska. A
former student at Thyatira High School, he entered the Army in July,
1956. Public invited to annual meeting Senator
John Kennedy (D. Mass.), considered a leading presidential contender in
the Democratic Party, will headline the speakers at the Mississippi
Economic Council in Jackson on April 16. He will address the evening
banquet. Girls, be satisfied Every
girl should have a husband, preferably her own. The lamebrain excuses
offered in the divorce courts today and the increasing number is
utterly disgusting, bringing our generation to shame. Remember girls,
no man is perfect and neither are you. Be kind to your man, he’s much
