Byers players named all-region • Thompson, Kilgore, Jones, Bryson
get top honors H.W. Byers coaches and players dominate the post-season
honors in Region 1-2A basketball. Both Jason
Thompson and Sylvester Kilgore were chosen Coaches of the Year.
Thompson led the Lady Lions to regional, north half and state
championships. Kilgore’s Lions also took the region tournament crown
and advanced to the second round of north state play. Rachel
Jones of Byers was selected the Region 1-2A girls Offensive Player of
the Year. Jones averaged 23 points, four steals, six rebounds and six
assists this season. T.W. Bryson of Byers was named the boys Defensive Player of the Year. Lady Lions on the Region 1-2A All-Division Team are Rachel Jones, Simone Ryan, Ciara Seldon and Symone Gorman. Lions on the Region 1-2A All-Division Team are T.W. Bryson, Justin Owens and Marvin Rayford Jr. Ashley Ables of New Site was tabbed as the girls Defensive Player of the Year. Ellis Pettie of Belmont was chosen as the boys Offensive Player of the Year. Other
girls on the All-Division Team are – from Baldwyn, Merica Turner; from
East Union, Jessica Pannell; from New Site, Ashley Ables and Bree
Harris; from Mantachie, Cyndal Cleveland and Mikki Michael; from
Walnut, Megan Jackson; and from Belmont, Anna Brooke Page, Kallie
Montgomery and Rumae Butler. Other boys on the
All-Division Team are – from Baldwyn, Dorian Berry and Andrew Shelton;
from East Union, Javonte Shawvez; from New Site, Brian Gardner and
Jarett Wildmon; from Mantachie, Malcolm Warren and Justin Leveck; from
Walnut, Ernest Perry and Santez Small; from Belmont, Ellis Pettie,
Derik Joslin and Jarvis Southward.
