Indians pound Wildcats By BARRY BURLESON Editor Byhalia started district play last week on a winning note. The Indians tomahawked Independence 10-6 Tuesday, March 11, at home behind some solid team hitting. “It’s
good to get off to a winning start in the district,” head coach Bubba
Brown said. “We have mostly district games from here on out.” Leading
Byhalia, which had a .480 batting average on the day, was Lamarcus
Hardaway with three singles. Adding two hits each were Pat Malone
(triple and single), Jordan Morelli (double and single) and Marcus
Franks (two singles). Andrew Brown, Tavariaus Neal, Cody Wiley, Chris Hill and Dean Miller all had singles. “We hit the ball extremely well,” Coach Brown said. The
Indians secured the win with six runs in the fifth. They also scored
one in the third, two in the fourth and one in the sixth. Miller picked up the win from “the hill.” He threw the complete game, seven innings, and struck out seven. The Wildcats scored one in the first and five in the second. On Monday of last week, the Class 3A Indians dropped a non-district contest, 14-2 to Class 5A South Panola. “We’ve
been playing a lot of 4A and 5A teams getting ready for district,” said
Brown, whose team enters this week with a 2-8 overall mark. The
Indians visit Ripley Thursday at 5 p.m. They host Water Valley Saturday
at 1:30 p.m. and then travel to Marshall Academy in Holly Springs
Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Next Tuesday, March 25, Byhalia hosts Independence at 4 p.m.
