Indians lose to Caledonia By
CLAUDE VINSON
Byhalia didn’t get the first possession but the Indians registered the first four points in Class 3A North State Tournament play on Tuesday, Feb. 20. The Caledonia Confederates had a big man in the middle but Byhalia was covering him effectively in the early goings. However, this was leaving a gap in the outside coverage, and Darron Donald was pelting the nylon from the top of the key. The first quarter was a dead heat at 20-20. The ’Feds started pushing the ball inside to Derek Sherrod in the second. He was getting hit on his close attempts but he was only connecting on 50 percent of his freebies. However, Andrew Hawkins was taking up the slack for everyone. The Indians were not having any luck keeping him out of the lane. He was pretty much responsible for the 44-29 halftime score. He had scored 22 points in the first half. The ’Feds kept hitting on all cylinders in the third. Hawkins electrified the crowd when he threw down his second slam. The delighted crowd loved the 74-42 margin after three. Play became torrid and rough in the final quarter. The Indians were fighting hard to overcome a high double-digit lead. The ’Feds turned it into a “dunk fest” in the last two minutes. They registered their 100th point just before the buzzer. The final was 100-71. Demarius Moore led the Indians’ effort with 24, including four threes. Dawan Malone shot for 20. Norrell Malone scored 12. Hawkins had a game high 36. Donald had 21 and Tyler Hardy had 17. Sherrod scored 11. Report News:
