Police encourage neighborhood watches By SUE WATSON Holly Springs Police Department is getting credit for what it has been doing all along, night patrolling of businesses and residential areas, said chief Robert Pearson.
Fire destroys Hernando Road home By SUE WATSON Robert Harris lost his house to fire last week in an early morning blaze. Holly Springs Fire Chief Kenny Holbrook said the mobile home Harris was renting was fully involved when firefighters arrived at 7:51 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15. Session focuses on ‘Fish’ By SUE WATSON The Marshall County Leadership Class of 2007 got a chance to go fishing last week in a kind of virtual fishing trip. The class watched a short video of Fish! Philosophy then took a ride in imaginary boats - all to learn how to reenergize the home or workplace. Jury in Pruitt trial coming from Lee By SUE WATSON Circuit Court Judge Andrew Howorth has issued an order granting a change of venue in the trial of Michael W. Pruitt, according to circuit clerk Lucy Carpenter. A jury will be impanelled in Lee County and the April 9 trial will be held at the Marshall County Courthouse, she said. A change of venue can be bringing a jury from another county, as in this instance, or moving the trial to another county, according to Carpenter. Pretrial motions in the case are set for hearing March 23 at the courthouse. Pruitt is charged with kidnapping and assault of a 6-year-old girl from the Laws Hill commnity in July 2006. Country club property being sold via sealed bids By SUE WATSON Chancellor Edwin H. Roberts has ordered the dissolution of the Holly Springs Development Corp. following a request from the shareholders. The corporation, of approximately 138 shareholders, owns 62 acres, more or less, on West Woodward Ave. in Holly Springs. The property includes improvements, a nine-hole golf course, a clubhouse and several maintenance buildings, a swimming pool and tennis courts. The premises were formerly occupied by the Holly Springs Country Club, a separate corporate entity that leased the property for use. The proceeds from the sale of the property will be used to pay corporate debt with the remainder of the proceeds to be divided among the shareholders. The property will be sold by sealed bids which are to be received at the office of Jones & Schneller, PLLC, 126 North Spring Street, P.O. Box 417, Holly Springs, Mississippi 38635 no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, April 1. Bids will be opened at 10 a.m., April 2, at the office of Jones & Schneller. Churches assist homeless family By SUE WATSON Largely due to one man’s efforts, a family of four who has been living at New Hope Village shelter will soon have a home in Potts Camp. Correction In an article last week (February 15 edition) about the Holly Springs Lake Estates Homeowners’ Association, there was an error. Emil Careau is the vice president of the association. The South Reporter apologizes for the mistake and is happy to correct it. One charged with burglary; police respond to array of calls Officers of the Holly Springs Police Department responded to an alarm call on February 14 around 3:26 a.m. in the 1600 block of Crescent Meadows Drive. Officers arrived at the scene, finding a business at that location had been burglarized. On February 15, Tennial Richards of Holly Springs turned himself in to the Holly Springs Police Department on burglary charges, according to chief Robert Pearson. Richards was held on $25,000 bond. In addition, officers responded to the following calls last week – suspended driver’s license (one), trespassing (two), petit larceny (one), false information (one), auto burglary (one), contempt of court (two), threat (three), simple assault (two), disorderly conduct (one), disturbing the peace (one), fugitive (one).
