Local News BriefsCandidates qualify; deadline for sign-up two weeks away Three additional candidates have signed up for local political races. Annie Moffitt Lucas is running for county tax assessor. Terry Kilpatrick is running for constable, South District. On the state level, incumbent Jack Gadd is again seeking the House of Representatives, District 13, position. The deadline to qualify is Thursday, March 1. Candidates for county races should go to the circuit clerk’s office in Holly Springs to qualify. The first primary is Tuesday, Aug. 7, with the runoff set for Tuesday, Aug. 28. The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 8. Marshall-Benton Job Fair March 1 in Holly Springs The 2007 Marshall-Benton Job Fair will be held on Thursday, March 1, at the Eddie Lee Smith Multi-Purpose Building from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Holly Springs. The 2006 Marshall-Benton Job Fair serviced over 400 job seekers. Job seekers were able to meet with the human resource representatives of numerous employers with a wide range of job openings. The job fair employers reported having received 344 resumes and extended 141 job offers on the day of the job fair. The employers also estimated 197 hires during 2006 as a direct result of the job fair. The 2007 Marshall-Benton Area Job Fair is free to all job seekers. It is recommended job seekers dress appropriately and bring a resume. Be there early because lines tend to form at the entrance. County awards luncheon scheduled for February 27 The sixth annual Marshall County Awards Luncheon for businesses, industries, schools and educators is set for Tuesday, Feb. 27. Nominations for awards are due by Feb. 22. The event, which will be held at the Oak Palace in Holly Springs and catered by Safari’s at Kirkwood, starts at 11 a.m. with registration, networking and displays. Lunch starts at 11:30 with the program beginning at noon. Dwight Fryer, an author and motivational speaker, will be the guest. Tickets are $15. Reservations are required by Feb. 24.
