Hawks take third place By BARRY
BURLESON The Holly Springs Hawks lifted their way to third place in the recent Charleston Invitational Meet. Just five points separated the top three finishers in the powerlifting event, with McClain winning first and Charleston second. “The kids are doing well in the offseason weightlifting,” said Clifford Brown, head football coach at Holly High. Two Hawks placed first in the individual competition at the Charleston meet. Cordell Stephens, competing in the 275-lb. weight class, claimed the top prize with a combined lift of 1,200 pounds in the bench, squat and deadlift. Kendrick Duncan, competing in the 220-lb. weight class, took first with a combined lift of over 1,200 pounds. Two other Hawks finished second. Darryl Ayers, competing in the super heavyweight class, placed second with a combined lift of over 1,100 pounds. Elijah Thigpen, competing in the 165-lb. weight class, earned second with a combined lift of 1,000 pounds. One other Hawk, Marvin Lucas, placed third in the 242-lb. weight class. He had a combined lift of 1,100 pounds. The Hawks competed in the district powerlifting meet this past Saturday. Report News:
