Springs News Hopewell No. 1 hosts praise program The Holly Springs-Marshall County Baptist Association executive board met Saturday, January 20 at 10 a.m. in the Baptist Association building with moderator James Green presiding. Reports were given and other items were discussed. Vera Smith of Jackson gave her husband a surprise birthday celebration Saturday, Jan. 27 at Kimbrough Place in Benton County. They sang Happy Birthday to him and he received many gifts. Relatives were present from this area and from Detroit, Mich. Pastor Leroy James received a letter from Dr. David L. Beckley, president of Rust College announcing the progress of Sidney Govan, a student at Rust. The letter was read to the congregation on Sunday. The pastor and church gave Sidney applause. A Church Growth Seminar was held at Hopewell No. 1 Saturday, January 27, 10 a.m. Dr. Dwight Ginn of Cumming Street Baptist Church, Memphis, was the lecturer and Dr. John W. Crittle, pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church was the speaker. Hopewell No. 1 Pastor’s Aide Club presented a praise program Sunday, Jan. 28 at 2:30 p.m. Jerusalem Baptist Church of Memphis was the guest. Master of ceremony was O.P. White, pastor of Bethlehem CME Church. Call to worship was given by Pastor James. Devotion was given by Hopewell No. 1 and visiting deacons. Deacon Melvin DeBerry introduced the master of ceremony. Sister Lakitha Boga gave the welcome. Acceptance was by Jerusaleum. Solo was sung by Deacon R. Galloway. Deacon Michael Crittle discussed the theme. Beautiful music was provided by Hopewell No. 1 and Jerusalem Choirs. Rev. Gifton Jones delivered a wonderful sermon on “All About Jesus.” At the close of the sermon he sang a duet with his son. Deacon Melvin DeBerry gave the words of gratitude. Benediction was given by Dr. Jones. Delicious food was served in the fellowship hall with the Missionary Society in charge. We wish to express our sympathy and love to the family of the late Sheila Miller. Services were held at Hopewell No. 1 on January 27. Report News:
