One dies in crash Rickey Dale Mackey Jr., 27, died in a single vehicle accident in the Hudsonville area of Highway 313, Saturday night, according to coroner John Garrison. The coroner said the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, the pickup struck a tree, overturned and then caught fire. Mackey was trapped in the vehicle when it caught fire, according to Kenny Holbrook, chief with the Holly Springs Fire Department. His body was extricated after the fire was extinguished, Holbrook said. The pickup was completely involved when firefighters arrived on the scene, he said. The accident occurred between 10:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, Garrison said. The body was sent to the state medical examiner’s office for autopsy, he said. A passenger and brother of the deceased, Dewayne Mackey, 26, of Carthage, was believed to have been thrown from the vehicle, Holbrook said. Sgt. Leslie White, with the Troop E at the Batesville office of the Mississippi Highway Patrol, said Mackey was eastbound about two miles from the intersection of Highway 7 North and Highway 313 when the accident occurred. Dewayne Mackey was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford for treatment, he said. The deceased was a resident of Carey Chapel Road in Marshall County, White said. Report News:
