Two face drug charges By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Two men were arrested last week and charged with possession with intent to sell marijuana, according to Sheriff Kenny Dickerson. He said the men were arrested after a traffic stop for careless driving by deputy Rick Preciado on December 16 in the afternoon. The men were driving a 2000 brown Buick near Victoria on Highway 78, he said. The
subjects, Donta Jones, 25, of 608 Pine Street, Greenwood, and
Christopher Demond Matthews, 21, of 717 Herman Shirley Road, West
Point, were arrested after Preciado noticed a “very obvious odor of
marijuana” in the vehicle, Dickerson said. The
men were taken into custody and the vehicle was searched and
inventoried. The search revealed about seven and a half pounds of
marijuana concealed in a dark-colored duffel bag located in the trunk
of the car, according to Dickerson. The men are
charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell
and made initial appearance Tuesday in Marshall County Justice Court.
Bond for each is $20,000.
