Barton man still critical at Med
• Authorities need leads

Investigators with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department have exhausted all leads in the assault of a Barton man on January 19.

Sheriff Kenny Dickerson urged anyone with any knowledge of the assault upon John Norton, 76, of 308 Clark Road in the Barton community, to contact either the sheriff’s department (662-252-1311) or Crime Stoppers (1-800-729-2169). Any information will be kept strictly confidential, he said.

Norton has been in critical condition at the Memphis Med since he was found by his daughter in his backyard with assault injuries, Dickerson said.

In other investigations during January, Dickerson reported the following arrests:

Two men were arrested and charged with burglary and grand larceny. Curtis Glover, 32, of 562 Brick and Tile Road, and Lenchez Stephenson, 24, of 2820 Highway 178 West, Holly Springs, were arrested and charged with two counts burglary and one count grand larceny relative to burglaries that occurred in Holly Springs and the theft of a four-wheeler in the Red Banks area, Dickerson said.

The four-wheeler was recovered from a subject in the Oxford/Water Valley area and numerous items of property taken in the burglaries were also recovered after being sold to residents near Holly Springs, he said.

Glover also has a previous theft-related indictment from past circuit court action and remains in jail on $75,000 bond, he said. Stephenson was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, Dickerson said. His bond is also set at $75,000.

A man was arrested and charged with burglary in the Saddle Club Road area off Highway 4 West.

Toriano Dowdy, 30, of 6918 Braybourne Main, Olive Branch, was arrested January 26 by sheriff’s deputies responding to a tip from a resident in the Saddle Club Road area.

Dickerson said the caller saw a man coming from a residence on Saddle Club Road carrying a garbage bag containing some items and was walking toward a car parked nearby.

“Officers responded immediately after receiving the tip and recovered numerous items of property which had been taken from a residence moments earlier,” Dickerson said.

Dowdy is charged with three counts of residential burglary and one count of burglary of a commercial building.

Prior to this incident Dowdy was out of jail on bond and awaiting court action on a previous burglary related charge, Dickerson said.

“As a result, his previous bond has been revoked and Dowdy is in jail without bond awaiting circuit court action,” he said.
Two men and one juvenile have been arrested and charged with malicious mischief in the vandalism of garbage cans and road signs.

Anthony Shane Frankum, 26, of 3155 Highway 178 East, and Daniel Shane Gibbons, 19, of 1769 Wilson Golden Road near Waterford, were arrested and charged with seven counts of malicious mischief relative to the vandalism of garbage cans in the Bethlehem, Potts Camp, Cornersville and Lake Center area, Dickerson said.

The suspects are believed to have taken garbage cans belonging to residents, put them in a vehicle and then thrown them at road signs.

“Numerous road signs were damaged and numerous cans destroyed,” Dickerson said. “We are asking anyone in those areas who are missing a garbage can to contact the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office. It is possible the cans were taken by these suspects.”

A juvenile was also charged with malicious mischief and the case is being handled in Marshall County Juvenile Court, Dickerson said.

The arrests were enhanced by alert residents of the county who were watchful for suspicious vehicles and activities and promptly who promptly reported the activities to the sheriff’s department, Dickerson said.

“We appreciate individuals being watchful of their neighbors homes and property and encourage them to call in immediately upon sighting of persons of a suspicious nature. We will respond and check out the vehicle and subjects.”
