Christmas concert set for Sunday at Rust College
Spend
the evening with Zebedee R. Jones and the
world renowned Rust College A’Cappella Choir in their annual Christmas
concert Sunday, Dec. 9, at 6 p.m. in the Morehouse Auditorium, Doxey
Center.
The
10th annual concert will feature “The
Messiah” by George Frederic Handel. “The Messiah” is an oratorio based
on a libretto of another artist’s work made famous by Handel.
The
libretto comprises three acts with several scenes, with the most famous
movement being the “Hallelujah” chorus.
Holiday lighting contest December 12-17 in Byhalia “The
Light Up The Town” Holiday Lighting Contest will be held December 12-17
in Byhalia.
The
winners will be announced December 19. A yard sign will be presented to
the winners. Each winner will win $50 donated by the Byhalia Garden
Club and Byhalia Beautiful.
The
contest is open
to properties within the Byhalia Town Limits. The categories are
residential (best door or window, best overall and most original) and
commercial or public buildings (best overall and best door or window).
City police make arrest on false pretense charges The
Holly Springs Police Department reported one arrest and eight other
incidents for the week ending December 3.
Thomas
Lester, 42, of Holly Springs, was arrested Friday, November 30, and
charged with five counts of false pretense, according to chief Robert
Pearson.
Officers
responded to the following
additional activities last week: driving while license suspended (1);
no proof of insurance (1); malicious mischief (1); simple assault
domestic violence (2); simple assault (1); and shoplifting (3).
Anyone
having information regarding any crime committed in Holly Springs or
Marshall County is asked to call police at 662-252-2122 or Crime
Stoppers at 1-800-729-2169. Callers do not have to give their name when
supplying tips to officers. The caller may be entitled to a reward of
up to $1,000.
Community Choir to present Christmas cantata Dec. 16 The
Holly Springs Community Choir,
under the direction of Zebedee Jones, will perform its annual Christmas
cantata at 5 p.m. on Dec. 16 at St. Joseph Church, 305 E. Van Dorn
Avenue.
This
year’s cantata will be “I Believe He’s the Son of God,” composed by
John F. Wilson. Admission to the performance is free.
The
event is a joint production of Asbury and St. Joseph. Choir members are
drawn from various Holly Springs churches and from the community at
large.
