A Holly Springs native is leading the top-ranked junior college basketball team in the nation.
Clevin Hannah, a sophomore point guard at Chipola College in Marianna, Fla., was recognized as co-national player of the week and as the top player in the State of Florida for his stellar performance during three recent games.
Hannah, who has committed to play next season at Wichita State, averaged 18.3 points in wins over St. Petersburg, Georgia Perimeter and USC-Salkehatchie.
He set a school record during the Indians’ 84-68 win November 23 against Georgia Perimeter by knocking in 10 of 11 three-point field goals. He finished the game with a career-high 32 points after connecting on his final 10 attempts from beyond the arc.
On the next evening, he scored 14 points and was a perfect five of five from the field, while also dishing out a team-high seven assists. Number-one-ranked Chipola defeated USC-Salkehatchie 91-65 to improve to 9-0 on the season.
On the week, Hannah shot 82 percent from the field (19-23) and 88 percent (15-17) from the three-point line. He has now made his last 12 three-point field goal attempts, which is also a school record.
On the season, Hannah is averaging 12.6 points and 5.4 assists per contest. He is third in the nation in three-point field goal percentage, connecting on 68 percent (27-40) of his tries.
