‘Take Back Our Highways’ in force over holiday period
Sgt. Leslie White, with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, has announced the Thanksgiving holiday highway safety program that will be in force from November 19-25 in Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee.
All available units with the state patrols and local police and sheriff departments will be patrolling the highways over the holidays, he said.
Law officers will be setting checkpoints and watching for behavior that puts the motoring public at risk for accidents and deadly crashes, White said.
“Officers will target behaviors such as speeding, following too close, failure to yield and driving under the influence of alcohol,” he said. “Expect to see more numbers of officers on the highways and more checkpoints.
“We encourage all motorists to buckle up and to refrain from drinking and driving,” he said.
