Local News BriefsChristmas Parade Dec. 1; registration forms available The Holly Springs Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, at 5 p.m. The parade, which will roll through the downtown area, will feature floats, antique cars, bands and much more. Sign-up forms are available at the chamber office in Holly Springs or from the website at www.hollyspringsmschamberofcommerce.org. ‘Take Back Our Highways’ in force over holiday period Sgt. Leslie White, with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, has announced the Thanksgiving holiday highway safety program that will be in force from November 19-25 in Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee. All available units with the state patrols and local police and sheriff departments will be patrolling the highways over the holidays, he said. Law officers will be setting checkpoints and watching for behavior that puts the motoring public at risk for accidents and deadly crashes, White said. “Officers will target behaviors such as speeding, following too close, failure to yield and driving under the influence of alcohol,” he said. “Expect to see more numbers of officers on the highways and more checkpoints. “We encourage all motorists to buckle up and to refrain from drinking and driving,” he said. Byhalia holiday activities include celebration, Santa The Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce announces some upcoming activities as the holiday season arrives. The annual Chamber Celebration is Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Southern Corner on Church Street and Hwy. 309 in downtown Byhalia. The reception starts at 6 p.m., with an auction and dinner to follow. Awards will be presented, and there will be jazz by Jerry Smith. Tickets are $20. After Nov. 26, tickets are $25. Friday, Dec. 7. will be the annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Visit With Santa. It will be held at the Byhalia Fire Department from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and include a chili supper and visits with Santa. The event benefits the Byhalia Volunteer Fire Department. Holiday Business Open House in Byhalia is from December 7-14. Look for the red and green bows. The Holiday Home-Based Business Open House is Friday, Dec. 14, at the chamber office, 2452 Church Street, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.’ For more information on what’s going on in Byhalia this holiday season, contact the chamber of commerce, 662-838-8127. |
