The Potts Camp men’s cross country team ended its
season Saturday, Nov. 3, by finishing third overall at the State 1-A
Meet in Clinton. The end-of-the-year meet was run on the difficult
Choctaw Trails (5K) course on the campus of Mississippi College. The
men’s team had two runners make all-state by finishing in the top five.
Junior Chad Randolph brought home the silver medal by finishing second
place with a time of 18:43, and senior Billy Mitchell finished fourth
overall with a time of 19:02. For the Cardinals,
George Hampton finished third for the team, followed by Corey Totten,
Larry Miller, Miles Moore and Dustin Minor. Coach
Karen Green, discussing the third-place finish after the meet, said,
“I’m extremely proud of the way the guys represented the school and ran
with such determination in the face of lots of recent adversity. They
put all of their heart into it today, and I can’t even begin to explain
how proud I am of them.” Nineteen teams from across the state qualified to compete for the State 1-A title, nine from the North and 10 from the South. Coach
Green had yet another successful cross country season for the school,
posting the school’s 15th top five finish in either the men’s or
women’s division at the state meet since the inception of the program
at Potts Camp School in 1994. Three of the top five finishes resulted
in state championships. The men’s team will continue to train by running distance in the spring as part of the school’s track team. Practice for the 2008 cross country season will begin in July 2008. |
