Patriots, Indians enter playoffs
By BARRY BURLESON
Two county schools, Marshall Academy and Byhalia, are still playing football.
The Patriots and Indians will both host first round games in the state playoffs this Friday night, Nov. 9 – MA in the Mississippi Private School Association and Byhalia in the Mississippi High School Activities Association.
Marshall, the District 1-AA champ, will face Canton Academy at 7 p.m. The Panthers earned the wildcard spot thanks to a 30-14 win over Indianola Academy last Friday. MA is 9-1; Canton 7-4.
It’s the Patriots’ first playoff berth since 2002.
The Marshall-Canton winner plays the Manchester-Kirk winner in the next round, November 16.
It’s Cowboys versus Indians Friday in Byhalia. The Indians, Region 3-3A champions, will meet Humphreys County, the fourth place team from Region 4-3A, at 7 p.m. The Indians are 7-3; the Cowboys 4-5.
This will be Byhalia’s first playoff appearance since they renewed varsity football in 2002 after approximately 20 years with no team.
The Byhalia-Humphreys County winner faces the Aberdeen-Booneville winner in the next round, November 16.
Admission to the Marshall-Canton game is $6 for students and adults. No passes, except coaches and media, will be accepted.
Tickets for the Byhalia-Humphreys County contest are $7 each, students and adults. They can be purchased in advance at Byhalia High School.
