County accidents claim two victims The Mississippi Highway Patrol reports two recent accidents in Marshall County which resulted in deaths. A Slayden man died October 16 from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash on October 14. Irby
W. Carpenter, age 62, was driving eastbound on Highway 178 between
Victoria and Red Banks shortly before 6 p.m. when a 1987 Toyota
4-Runner, trying to pass another vehicle, crashed into his 1996 Ford
Taurus, according to Sgt. Leslie White with the Highway Patrol’s
Batesville office. Carpenter was
taken to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, where he later died,
according to Marshall County Coroner John Garrison. The
driver of the 4-Runner, Keith L. Patterson, 19, of Byhalia, and two
juvenile passengers suffered moderate injuries, according to White. The crash remains under investigation. A truck-car collision Sunday, Oct. 21, at 7:20 p.m. on Highway 302 killed an Alabama man. J.C.
Stanfield, age 60, of 735 Cherry Lane, Cherokee, Ala., was killed when
the 1992 Buick Park Avenue he was driving collided with a Mack truck
driven by Eddie L. Owens, age 57, 26 CR 228, Oxford. Sergeant
White said both vehicles were traveling eastbound, and the accident
happened at the intersection of North Red Banks Road and Highwway 302.
