Championship rodeo this weekend
Several county residents have qualified to compete in the finals of the Deep South Rodeo Association this weekend in Ashland at the Benton County Ag Expo.
The top 15 cowboys and cowgirls who have accumulated the most points during the 2007 rodeo season earn the right to compete in the finals.
Those from Marshall County who have qualified in bull riding include Shane McGregor and Rookie Bolden from Holly Springs, Neil Whaley, Will Rogers Jr. and Craig Work from Potts Camp.
Cowgirls from the county who are qualified in barrel racing are Renae Fennell and Mary Francis Buchanan.
This is the first year the four- year-old association has held the finals at the Benton County Expo Center. Stock contractor Jerry Bolden said Ashland is centrally located for the event and that the cowboys liked the ground in the arena. He also noted there is a covered warm-up area.
Awards will be presented after the Saturday night performance. For more information, call 662-252-4634 or 662-551-0475.
