Marshall Academy will be represented in next week’s Mississippi Private School Association all-star fast-pitch softball games. Susan
Rodgers, head coach of the Lady Patriots, will lead the North squad
against the South in the game, and her senior shortstop, Mandy Bolden,
will play for the North. The
doubleheader will be played Monday, Oct. 22, at 3:30 p.m. at
Mississippi College. Coach Rodgers and Bolden will report on Sunday.
There will be a Sunday practice and then an awards banquet Monday at
noon prior to the all-star contests. Thirty
of the state’s best fast-pitch players will be featured – 15 from North
A-AA-AAA schools and 15 from South A-AA-AAA schools. Assisting Rodgers will be coach Jim Patterson from Magnolia Heights School and coach Lauren Lasuzzo from Bayou Academy. Other
members of the North team are Francine Signa, Deer Creek School; Hannah
Lee, Leake Academy; Heather Suddoth, Magnolia Heights School; Kathryn
Leard, Indianola Academy; Katie Easter, Hebron Christian School; Kim
Corley, Lee Academy; Laura Coats, Oak Hill Academy; Lauren Lott,
Washington School; Lauren Tidwell, North Delta School; Maghan Brown,
Bayou Academy; Megan McKinnon, Washington School; Melanie Gators, North
Delta School; Mindi Turnipseed, Kemper Academy; and Whitney Gross,
Leake Academy. The MA Lady Patriots
won the Class AA state championship this season, the school’s first
since the program was started in 2002. They finished with a 28-13
record.
