Lady Hawks earn wins over ’Cats, Horn Lake By BARRY BURLESON
The Holly Springs Lady Hawks picked up seven- and five-point wins last week over district foe Independence and 5A team Horn Lake. Coach Wilbert Beard’s Lady Hawks got 14 points each from Tamekico Johnson and Jashanta Walker in a 55-48 win over the Lady Wildcats January 16 at home. Also scoring in double figures were Ebony Taylor with 11 and Katia Isom with 10. The game was tied at 21 at the half. Holly High outscored Independence 14-10 in the third quarter and 20-17 in the fourth. The Lady Hawks followed that up with a 46-41 road win Saturday night at Horn Lake. This game, too, was tied at halftime – this time at 19. But Holly High pulled away in the second half, outscoring the home team 11-7 in the third and 16-15 in the fourth. Taylor was the leading scorer with 16 points. Katrina Cowan and Johnson added nine each. The Lady Hawks improved to 6-13 on the season. Hawks Coach Naylond Hayes’ Hawks were not as fortunate last week. They dropped six and 10-point decision to the same two schools. The Holly High boys led the Wildcats 34-33 at the half and 48-47 after three quarters. But they let it slip away in the fourth. when Independence went on a 13-6 run. Douglas Faulkner and Cordell Jefferson gunned in 17 points each for the Hawks. Daniel Burton scored 12. Jefferson’s 23 points weren’t enough Saturday night at Horn Lake. Holly High fell 70-60. Timothy Oliver was also in double figures for the Hawks. He scored 11. Justin Lesueur and Daniel Burton added nine and eight, respectively. Holly Springs trailed 24-14 after one period and 40-31 at the half. The Hawks saw their record dip to 7-15 for the season. Schedule Holly High squads traveled to Water Valley on Tuesday of this week. They host North Panola Friday night. Next Tuesday, Jan. 30, the Hawks and Lady Hawks go to Marks Palmer. Report News:
