MA district champs
The Marshall Academy Lady Patriots clinched first place in the district last week with a 10-0 win over Kirk Academy.
Lauren Alexander was the winning pitcher, allowing just one hit and striking out five.
Getting two hits each for MA were Alexander, Traci Rodgers, Mandy Bolden and Chelsey Gilliam. Adding a hit each were Heather Tomlinson and Casey Gibson.
The Lady Patriots then played in the Indian Summer Classic over the weekend at Tunica. It featured some of the top teams in the area.
Marshall went 3-3 in the event and finished fourth out of 10 teams.
“We faced some very stiff competition and we responded very well,” said coach Susan Rodgers. “We went extra innings with the team that won the tournament.”
MA goes into postseason play with a number one seeding. The North AA Tournament is set for this week, September 19 and 22, at Winston Academy in Louisville.
