Celebration
Coaches Webb Lewis, Jimmy Hicks and Keith Wicker celebrate as the final seconds tick away Friday night.
|
New coach Webb Lewis led his Marshall Academy junior high Patriots to an enormous win Thursday night on the road.
The Class AA Patriots went to Senatobia and stunned Class AAA Magnolia Heights 20-18 in overtime.
“We
had to work hard to win that one,” said Lewis, a 2002 graduate of MA.
“We weren’t supposed to win it. We surprised some people.”
John Tomlinson scored the Patriots’ touchdown in regulation play. The score was knotted at 6 at the end of four quarters.
Chad
Mitchell rushed for touchdowns in the first and second overtime. After
Mitchell’s score in the second OT, Joey Brock cashed in the
game-winning, two-point conversion on a reverse.
The junior high Patriots, 2-0 on the young season, visit Carroll Academy Thursday at 7 p.m.

Benefit
tourney this Saturday
There will be a benefit softball tournament
Saturday, Sept. 15, at Potts Camp Town Park. It will be for men’s
and coed softball teams.
The benefit is for Bailey Childers. She
is the daughter of Keith and Toya Childers. She was born Aug. 20, 2006
– 14 weeks early. She weighed 2 lbs. 4 oz. She spent the first
95 days of her life in the NICU at Tupelo.
She has also been in the hospital numerous
times since then. Due to complications breathing, she received a trach
in May and kept it in for three months. On Aug. 17, 2007, the trach
