Hargon killed in prison By SUE WATSON Death row inmate Earnest Lee Hargon of Yazoo County is dead following a prison stabbing Tuesday, Aug. 28, in Unit 32 at the state penitentiary. Larceny, burglary suspects arrested By SUE WATSON The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department made several arrests last week for grand larceny, according to Sheriff Kenny Dickerson. Alex Drian McKinney, 22, of 568 Baltimore Street, Memphis, Tenn., was arrested and charged on August 22, with breaking into a residence on Felix Road in Marshall County and afterward taking a 2006 Chrysler four-door, according to sheriff’s investigator Kelly McMillen. Property tax sale biggest ever By SUE WATSON The tax sale for 2006 brought in $1,037,205.20 in delinquent property taxes - the largest value and volume on record with 1,978 parcels sold, according to Betty Byrd, Marshall County tax collector.

Residents urged to spruce up as festival time arrives Holly Springs area residents are urged to spruce up their property this week in preparation for the Hummingbird Migration Celebration Friday through Sunday. The annual festival will be held at Strawberry Plains Audubon Center just off Highway 311, and thousands of guests will be coming to the area to enjoy the hummingbirds and other activities. “It’s time to show off all that Holly Springs has to offer,” said Stephanie Movre, director of the Tourism Bureau.
