Birthdays
My latest birthday slipped by without
much fanfare, thank goodness. Most people tend to overlook 46, I guess.
There’s nothing significant about that one, except that it’s
one year closer to 50.

Sunday School
is a ‘tender treasure’ of our little city
Last Lord’s Day our Sunday school
got under way for the fall term. In “olden times” (when
I was a child) it was called Rally Day, and all the classes got new
teachers and met in different rooms. I always felt a little unsettled
by this, because I grew to love my Sunday school teachers and did not
want to leave them.

Letter to
the Editor
Thanks to fire
departments:
Dear Editor,
On Friday, Aug. 24, there was a huge
fire on Puppy Hill Road in Waterford. My son’s property was involved
in this fire and his home was saved and many others on this road were
saved due to the response and the work of all the fire departments that
came to the rescue. Thanks to Waterford, Holly Springs, Cayce, Watson,
Victoria, Red Banks, DeSoto County and Lafayette County Fire Departments
and any others that I may have missed.
Also, thanks to the emergency services
who were there to attend to those firemen who were overcome by the excessive
heat. Some of our tax dollars pay for these services that we take for
granted, but after seeing these men and women in action these fire departments
deserve those tax dollars that they received, plus some.
