| Runoff races next Tuesday By BARRY
BURLESON It’s back to the polls next week, as five Democratic primary races will be featured on the runoff ballot in Marshall County. Those five are coroner, tax assessor, justice court judge North, senator District 2 and state auditor. The decisions on Tuesday, August 28, are:
Four of the five will be on the ballot county-wide. The justice court judge race will be included only on ballots in the northern portion of the county. Precincts will be open for voting from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. next Tuesday. The deadline to vote absentee in the circuit clerk’s office in Holly Springs is this Saturday at 12 noon. The office is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Circuit clerk Lucy Carpenter is hoping for a good turnout. She said typically the turnout for a runoff race falls behind that of the first primary. Almost 50 percent of the registered voters in Marshall County marked ballots August 7. Those who voted the Republican primary ballot on August 7 cannot vote August 28, since only a Democratic party ballot will be voted, Carpenter said. If, however, a person did not vote in the August 7 primary elections, he or she can vote August 28 regardless of party preference. Both party candidates and independent candidates for offices will be on the same ballot in the general election November 6. Visit www.marshallcoms.org on the internet for more information on the election and to view runoff election returns Tuesday, August 28. The South Reporter will publish runoff election results in its next week’s edition and they will be posted at www.southreporter.com. |
