Football teams ready for work
By BARRY BURLESON
Some of the hottest temperatures of the summer will likely greet high school football teams.
Marshall Academy began practice on Wednesday of this week. Holly Springs and Byhalia high schools start Monday, Aug. 6.
The Indians and the Hawks, county rivals, are again in the same 3A region. Gone from the district are Marks Palmer and Water Valley. Newcomers are Lewisburg and Rosa Fort.
Other district members are North Panola, Independence and Senatobia.
The Indians’ and Hawks’ first games are August 31 – Byhalia visiting Horn Lake and Holly High hosting Lafayette.
Marshall Academy finds Carroll, Indianola and Kirk in the revamped District 1-AA. Other district foes are Lee (Ark.) and Lee (Clarksdale).
The Patriots face two of those teams out of the starting gate – Lee (Ark.) on August 24 and Kirk on August 31. Indianola is not far behind on September 14.
