Holly Springs firemen respond to
house fires
The Holly
Springs Fire Department worked three structure fires over the week
ending July 24, according to assistant fire chief Rodney Crane.
A house at
Red Banks on Cunningham Road and a house in Benton County on Becks
Springs Road were a total loss, he said. A third house fire on West
College Street in Holly Springs caused some damage but the structure
was saved, he said.
Firefighters
responded to 12 medical assistance calls, two car fires, one motor
vehicle accident and one smoke investigation as well over the week
ending July 24.
The Holly
Springs Fire Department will hold Fun Day in August with the time to be
announced, Crane said. The annual event is used to educate children and
parents about fire safety.
Two die in accident
Two men from
the Chulahoma address area died Monday in a single-vehicle roll-over
accident on Highway 78 one mile east of the county line in Byhalia,
according to Marshall County Coroner John Garrison.
The accident
took place at the 13 mile marker around 2:15 a.m. July 23, he said.
Garrison
received the call to the scene at 2:52 a.m. Both men were ejected when
the vehicle went off the road into the median, overturned several times
and landed in the west-bound lane, he said.
Dead at the
scene were Lazarins Thompson, 20, and Preston Sanderson, 18, both of
the Chulahoma community, he said.
