Snow
Lake News Petition posted in town hall; permits needed for new construction As we all said goodbye to the old year, did you also say goodbye to all the negative thoughts of yourself as well as that of all others? If not, do it today. But if this will be difficult for you try this: mark each day of your calendar off with a big colored smiley face when you don’t say anything negative about yourself or others. You might be surprised to find a brightly colored calendar at the end of the year and a much happier and peaceful 2007. Did you see the lovely landscaped property on Highway 4 just east of the lake? Some of Snow Lake’s residents purchased this property in 2006 and donated it to the homeowners’ corporation. Most of the cost of grading and landscaping was done with the proceeds received from Bell South for land they leased from the corporation to improve the Internet and telephone service. The now beautiful property is the result of Jason and our corporation’s president working side by side in the hot summer. Our president’s devotion to this lake is obvious as you drive by the lake and see the crisp flags flying above the beautiful grass on the levee. As you drive around the lake, you will also notice that the community center, swimming area and park are always in immaculate condition; as well as the gas line property, boat ramp and all other corporation property. We all know that C.Y. is a humble man with an enormous amount of energy and is passionate about the lake. We all owe him a great amount of gratitude for the wonderful job that he does for Snow Lake’s residents. What would this community do without the volunteers who care deeply about our town and beautiful lake? The community has one full- time and three part-time employees and the town contracts for trash removal and maintenance. Every thing else that is necessary for the town’s survival and to maintain its beauty is being done by volunteers. Our mayor and corporation president often work thirty or more hours a week and just a few volunteers do all of the necessary work. Members of the ERB (the Environmental Review Board) tour the community every month in order to keep up the appearance and value of our properties. All homeowners should keep their properties free of litter, old vehicles and lawns neatly cut. If you fail to comply, you will be given a warning and ample time to correct any discrepancies. If you do not correct the problem for which you are cited, you could be fined as much as $500. If you have a complaint or concern, call the town hall and register it with our town clerk. Also, the City Planning Committee will be meeting every month to institute new rules and recommendations for the betterment of the town. Just a reminder; you must have a permit for all new construction or remodeling. Before you begin a building project of any kind, check with the town clerk regarding the need for a permit. Mayor Pierpont has made plans to clear the town’s roads in case of snow or ice. She has instructed personnel to be prepared to spread sand and salt on the roads and made arrangements to have the roads de-iced if necessary. In case of a power loss, the corporation has an emergency plan in place to open the fire station and community center for those who need warmth and comfort. I will update you next week of the entire plan. Mayor Pierpont wants to inform all of us that our emergency sirens on the east and west sides will soon be modified to receive emergency information from the National Weather Bureau concerning pending bad weather for the local area. Test dates and times of testing will be determined and announced at a later date. Our Third District Supervisor, Don Jeans, will soon be lending us a welcomed, helping hand with preventive maintance on our roads, shoulders and culverts. A petition to Bell South concerning DSL is posted inside the town hall. This petition is asking for an earlier installation date for DSL in our town than Bell South plans. You do not have to sign this petition if you do not have a computer, but it will help your neighbors receive faster DSL service if you sign the petition. The town does not have a key for the Vista 3 Media payment box located beside the town hall door, so please don’t put water payments in this box (They will not be credited). Exel Dishion fell and broke his collarbone and a few ribs recently and is doing well. Also, Joy Priest and Ed McCulley are still recuperating from their surgeries and we wish all of them well. What could be better than starting your weekend with your family, friends or guests at our “Big Monthly Breakfast” at the community center this Saturday, January 20? From 7 to 9 a.m., Peggy, Emily and other wonderful volunteers will cook sausage, grits, white gravy, biscuits, coffee, juice and all the trimmings, and our Mayor will cook you eggs your way, all for only $4! No tax, no tip, just give the cooks a big hug. Can’t find a bigger, better breakfast, a better price, or a friendlier place. Everyone’s welcome. Come have some fun. After breakfast, stroll over to the monthly corporation meeting and join the increasing number of your neighbors who attend. Everyone needs to attend; after all, this is your lake. Fact or fiction? Twelve million gallons of spring water flows over the dam every day. That’s a fact! Wait until I tell you about the pot luck dinner next weekend on the 27th; you sure don’t want to miss that.
