This Friday the 13th proved to be unlucky and rather stressful.

The Tuesday before, during crunch time on deadline day, our main computer server was continuing to malfunction. We’ve had slight problems with it the past few weeks. That morning it needed immediate attention.

Friday the 13th was very stressful here at the newspaper. Saturday, Sunday and Monday weren’t too great either and Tuesday started out in pretty much the same vein.

Computers, as efficient and helpful as they are, are a royal pain when they go bonkers.

Embarrassing when I flub my words

Recently I received a wonderful gift, the volume on “Language” from the revised edition of the Encyclopedia of Southern Culture. Since preachers, along with journalists, teachers and lawyers, are people who get their living by words, this volume on “language,” especially as we Southerners use it, will be very interesting to me.

Need readers' help:
Dear Editor,

Please help! The Holly Springs Church of Christ is currently collecting new and used sports equipment for two orphanages in the Ukraine. Over the last several days, food, clothing and upgrade to the facilities at these two orphanages have been accomplished with the help of many individuals, business and churches from across the Southeast.

Those who direct the two orphanages have requested that sports entertainment be sent as they have no way to purchase these type items for the children. We will be sending a rail-car crate in October to the Ukraine wit medical supplies and sports equipment. The medical supplies are taken care of thanks to generous donations from hospitals and churches.

We will fill the remainder of the crate with sports equipment. If anyone is interested in helping with his effort, please call Jerry Moore at the Marshall County Superintendent’s Office or Barry Burleson at the South Reporter. the sports equipment can be new or used (in good shape though)

Thank you in advance for helping us to provide for the children in these two orphanages.
