| Practice voting available By SUE WATSON Lucy Carpenter, Marshall County circuit clerk, is encouraging practice ahead of time on the new Diebold voting machines. The August 7 primary elections are just a few weeks away and many voters may have not used the machines. Voters who have computers with Internet access can practice voting on the county website www.marshallcoms.org, Carpenter said. Click on Election Central to the left side of the homepage screen to find instructions on how to find your voting precinct, if you have never voted in the county; to view a list of all candidates at the state and local levels; and to practice voting, Carpenter said. Voters can also practice voting on a Diebold machine in the circuit clerk’s office during regular office hours - 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday each week except for state sanctioned holidays. The Diebold is much smaller than the touch screen machines that have been used in past elections in Marshall County - just larger than a large clipboard. Carpenter said poll workers will be available on election day at the polls to assist any voter who has not used the Diebold voting machine before. In the August 7 primary, voters must choose whether they want to vote the Democratic ballot or the Republican ballot. Voters do not have to be a member of either party to vote in the August 7 primary election. In the November 6 general election, Democratic party primary winners will be on the same ballot as Republican party primary winners and Independent candidates. Runoff elections, if there are any, in the primaries are August 28. To view a list of all candidates for all races in the state and local offices go to www.marshallcoms.org, click on Election Central and click “Here” under the offices and candidates banner. |
