The Scoreboard

Team effort,
lots of fun at newspaper
If you recall, last week’s column
was post-scripted with a small jibe directed toward our photographer,
Lawrence White.
At the time that article was written,
we, including editor and publisher Barry Burleson, had no idea that
the Mississippi Press Association had bestowed further honors on “your”
South Reporter.
At a luncheon (photo in last week’s
edition), Barry, during his presentation of the various awards, alluded
to the fact that the association committee had purposely kept him in
the dark. Also during his address, Barry stated that the publishing
of The South Reporter is a total team effort.
I can easily add to that. It is also
a “family” of employees – a close-knit group which
runs on dedication and professionalism laced with an undying sense of
humor. It matters not when or where you go around the newspaper office,
chances are you are going to hear laughter.
I can remember when I first came on board,
some years ago, I remarked that there was a feeling of jocularity permeating
the place. Linda Jones remarked that, “You have to have a sense
of humor to work here.” And if you have read Linda’s column,
then you know that she can find humor in anything.
Along with the humor goes a real sense
of dedication. Barry constantly reminds us that what we do is for the
public. Deadlines have to be met, so sometimes there is a little knuckle
biting. But at the end of the day we hope that we have pleased you,
our readership.
I am going to stop this before it becomes
maudlin. Again, thank you for reading us, and thank you for your many
comments. And a special “thanks” to my dear cousin, Corrine
Coleman, who called with a congratulatory message.
Have a happy and safe Independence Day
and we will see you in the newspaper.
