Deadline this week for those not yet
registered to vote
The last day
to register to vote in the August 7 Democratic and Republican party
primary elections (if not already a registered voter) is July 6 at 5
p.m. in the circuit clerk’s office at the Marshall County
courthouse.
Anyone
registering to vote by mail must have their registration envelope
postmarked no later than 5 p.m. July 7, a Saturday.
Absentee
voting began June 25 and ends August 4. Voters who qualify to cast an
absentee ballot by mail include those in the military, students
enrolled out of the county and those with physical disabilities. Other
registered voters who want to vote by absentee ballot because they will
not be in the county on election day may vote in person at the circuit
clerk’s office.
The circuit
clerk’s office is open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m.
until 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday except for state approved
holidays. The office will also be open for the convenience of absentee
voters on Saturday, July 28, and Saturday, August 4, from 8 a.m. until
noon.
Youth camp July 23-27; sign-up deadline July 13
The Marshall
County Sheriff’s Department will conduct a summer camp July
23-27 for youth grades 5-9 at the Eddie Lee Smith Jr. Multi-Purpose
Building in Holly Springs.
Camp begins
at 8 a.m. and is out at noon each day. The camp will accept 20
students, according to deputy Tamara Jeffries.
The camp is
free but because of limited space, only one child per family may
participate, Jeffries said. Parents are responsible for their
child’s transportation to and from camp. Snacks will be
provided.
“It
is imperative that parents arrive with the child on time and pick them
up promptly each day,” Jeffries said.
Camp topics
include Responsibility, Esteem, Ambition, Leadership (R.E.A.L.). The
fifth day of camp will be given to fun, a cookout and free T-shirts.
Applications
for camp can be picked up at the sheriff’s department located
at 819 West Street, Holly Springs. Deadline for application is July 13.

information, call Jeffries or deputy Cathy Elliott at 662-252-1311.
