Electricity
rates going up slightly

John Collins, general manager of
the Holly Springs Utility Department, said electricity rates will increase
soon by about 3 cents per thousand kilowatt hours, an upward quarterly
fuel cost adjustment imposed by the Tennessee Valley Authority.

HSPD advises
drive safely
The Holly Springs Police Department will
be out with the July 4 weekend coming up to implement checkpoints throughout
the city, according to chief Robert Pearson.
“We would like to remind
drivers to buckle up and have children in proper child restraints,”
Pearson said Monday. “Officers will be checking for violations
regarding DUI, suspended license, safety restraints, and others. The
Holly Springs Police Department wants your Fourth of July weekend to
be a fun and safe holiday.”
Police investigated an auto theft in
the 200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Saturday, June 23. A Pontiac
Gran Prix was taken from the parking lot of Citi Trends between 12 a.m.
and 2:40 a.m. The vehicle was later recovered in Fayette County, Tenn.

ending June 25, officers responded to the following: no proof of insurance
(2); no driver’s or expired license (2); driving while license
suspended (3); DUI (1); disregard for traffic (1); malicious mischief
(1); simple assault (1); disturbing the peace (2); disorderly conduct
(2); malicious mischief (1); and false information (1).

added to burn ban list
A burn ban was issued Tuesday, June 26,
for Marshall County by the Mississippi Forestry Commission. The ban
expires, unless cancelled or extended, on July 31.
The burn ban was issued by the commission
in conjunction with a request from the Marshall County Board of Supervisors,
according to Hugh Hollowell, county fire services coordinator.
Burn bans have been issued for 16 counties
so far by the Forestry Commission, many of which are located in the
eastern and central counties of Mississippi. The first burn ban of the
year was issued for Calhoun County March 23 until further notice.
Other counties listed are Choctaw, Clay,
Desoto, George, Itawamba, Kemper, Lafayette, Lee, Lowndes, Monroe, Montgomery,
Pontotoc, Union and Winston.

Rec sets baseball meeting
The Holly Springs Parks and Recreation
Department will be having a meeting concerning the summer and fall baseball
league for ages 8-15 years old.
It is set for Monday, July 2, at 6:30
p.m. at the Eddie L. Smith Jr. Multi-Purpose Building.
