Vacation enjoyable; good to be home
My Vacation
I’m back from a 10-day vacation. My daughter Kathy came to get me. She spent the night. We left Thursday, May 31 at 12 noon. We arrived in Sweet Springs, Mo., at 9:15 p.m. the same day.
Friday, June 1, Danny Goode, my grandson, his wife, Christie, Cody and Christian went to Branson for a couple of days. They dropped Little Campbell and Cash off for a few days. Campbell and Cash are my great-grandsons.
Saturday, June 2, Emily Goode was driven to the Kansas City Airport. Her flight left at about the same time as Laura’s, my granddaughter, was to arrive. Her flight was about 45 minutes late. So, we didn’t get away from the airport until 6:45 p.m. Corrine, my great-granddaughter, was really excited.
Sunday, June 3, we attended church at First Baptist in Sweet Springs, where Bro. Arnold Goode, my son-in-law, is pastor. Laura and Larry Sturm, a friend, sang the special music for the worship service. After church service, a host of relatives and friends came for lunch. The kids had a great time playing in Arnold and Kathy’s big yard.
Monday, June 4, David Goode, wife Alisa and boys arrived at mid-afternoon. They spent the night.
Tuesday, June 5, all gathered at the Grewell’s, Kathy and Arnold’s friends in Oak Grove, Mo. for dinner, fellowshipping and fishing. I didn’t catch a big fish this time.
June 6, Danny and family met Laura, Corrine, Kathy and myself at Deanna Rose’s homestead in Overland Park. This was a place with lots of farm animals for kids to pet. There were lots of beautiful flowers and trees that I really liked. It was a pleasant afternoon except the wind was very strong. David was working. We stopped by Starbucks to see him before going to Danny’s for the kids to swim.
Thursday, June 7, Laura and Corrine left at 10 a.m. to visit with friends. Kathy and myself went to Arrow Rock. We had a very pleasant walk through the museum and country stores. At about 3:15 p.m. we headed to Powell Gardens to meet Laura and Corrine. Powell Gardens is a beautiful, 915-acre botanical garden full of trees and flowers from every continent except Antarctica. They also had walking trails and lakes. After our garden tour, all the family met at Grandfather’s Pizza in Lee’s Summit to celebrate Kathy and Arnold’s 39th wedding anniversary. That was fun.
Friday, June 8, we went to the post office. Kathy carried me by the church for me to see Arnold’s office. We had dinner at Danny’s at 6 p.m. The kids went swimming. This was our last time together.
Saturday, June 9, Laura and Corrine flew back to California. Kathy and I rested.
Sunday, after church services, we headed back to Mississippi. I enjoyed my vacation, but it was good to be back home.
