Annual Eddie Lee Smith Health Fair a big success The seventh annual Eddie Lee Smith Health Fair was a big success this year. The week-long event began with the men’s health night on Tuesday evening at Alliance HealthCare System Hospital. Urologist, Dr. Walter Rayford, spoke to men about preventive health. He encouraged the men to get regular checkups and screenings. Dr. Rayford explained how early detection can greatly improve the chance for successful treatment and even save lives. The men were able to ask several questions concerning male health. The women’s health luncheon was held on Wednesday at the hospital. Internal medicine specialist, Dr. David Pizzamenti spoke to the women and fielded questions relating to women’s health. Dr. Pizzamenti acknowledged that women are far more likely to visit their doctor than men. He encouraged them to continue with regular screenings. On Thursday the annual health fair was held at the multi-purpose building in Holly Springs. Hundreds of residents from around the area attended this event. They were serviced by medical professionals and vendors from across the state. Residents were able to get vital information and screenings from a variety of health agencies. Hundreds of students from Holly Springs Primary School and Marshall Academy were treated to healthy habits information and were able to see medical and emergency helicopters, fire engines, and ambulance equipment in the park. Perry Williams, administrator and CEO of Alliance HealthCare System told participants that the health fair was part of the overall effort to change the status of health in the area. He pointed out future plans for expanding the health facilities and services provided by Alliance HealthCare System. Williams expressed his gratitude to all the local government departments which provided valuable assistance with this year’s health fair. Denise Simpson, chairperson for the seventh annual Eddie Lee Smith Health Fair, said the event was a big success because of the great staff who worked on the committee and the many residents who participated in this year’s health fair. She praised the many sponsors who gave generously to the health fair and the many vendors who provided valuable health service. The health fair is an annual event sponsored by Alliance HealthCare System and Williams Medical Clinic. The event is named after the late mayor of Holly Springs, Eddie Lee Smith, who was instrumental in bringing Dr. Kenneth Williams and Alliance HealthCare System to Marshall County. Plans for the eighth annual Eddie Lee Smith Health Fair will begin soon. Report News:
