Local News BriefsPolitical candidates qualify; deadline to sing up March 1 Twenty-one individuals were early bird qualifiers for candidate positions in Marshall County’s 2007 election, according to circuit clerk Lucy Carpenter. Qualifying started January 2. All incumbents but two have filed applications to run again for county offices. Tax Assessor Ronnie Johnson and Justice Court Judge for the North District Eugene Brown Jr. had not filed for candidacy as of Monday. As of Monday, Jan. 8, the following candidates had qualified at the circuit clerk’s office:
Anyone who wants to run for a county elected official position must file qualifying documents by the March 1 deadline at the circuit clerk’s office. Police officers make arrest in aggravated assault case Holly Springs police arrested a man on aggravated assault charges stemming from a stabbing incident in the 300 block of Bonner Street on January 2. Joshua McIntyre, 25, of Holly Springs, was released on bail, according to police chief Robert Pearson. Also, the burglary of an automobile occurred on Highway 4 East between the hours of 6:30 p.m. January 3 and 7 a.m. January 4. A Sony AM/FM cassette was taken from the vehicle while it was parked on a lot. A resident reported a stolen wallet from the 950 Mackie Drive area. The black wallet contained the victim’s driver’s license, checks, credit cards and various forms of identification. Anyone having any information regarding these incidents should contact police at 662-252-2122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-729-2169.
