Byhalia police make arrests By BARRY BURLESON The Byhalia Police Department responded to 60 calls during the past week and made several arrests. Chief Mike Novay released the following report – 25 alarm calls, six motor vehicle accidents, four disturbances, two thefts, two animal-related calls, 11 assists, nine miscellaneous and one vehicle theft. Officers wrote 18 citations. Derrick Nelson, 25, 2875 Simms, of Memphis, Tenn., was arrested January 8 on charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, receiving stolen property and failure to stop a motor vehicle, according to Novay. He said Sergio Lugo, 27, of Memphis, and Jose Bolanos, 43, of Byhalia, were arrested January 4 and charged with felony taking of a motor vehicle. Southaven authorities recovered the stolen vehicle after it was crashed into a convenience store, according to police. Novay said Eric Brown, 19, 97 Oak Street, Byhalia, was arrested January 6 and charged with felony possession of cocaine, improper equipment, no driver’s license and no insurance. Police said five other arrests were made on misdemeanor charges:
