Two die in accident By SUE WATSON Two people died and two passengers were transported in Byhalia police and fire’s first call of the year to an accident scene, according to police chief Mike Novay. The head-on collision occurred just before 3:55 a.m. New Year’s Day near the 8907 block of Highway 178 West, he said. Investigators began trying to reconstruct the accident Wednesday, January 3 and completed the crash report Thursday, January 4, he said. Dead at the scene were Harold Broadnax, 41, of the Cordova, Tenn. area, and Frank Newsom, 40, of the Byhalia area, said Marshall County Coroner John Garrison. Novay said the two passengers, a female passenger in each vehicle, were transported to the trauma center in Memphis. Newsom’s passenger was Sherri Holpe of the Byhalia area and Broadnax’s passenger was Natisha Collier, of Cordova. Both passengers are recovering from injuries received, Novay said. The passengers were thrown out of the vehicles and survived, he said. Both drivers were extricated from their vehicles by fire and rescue personnel. Two sports utility type vehicles were involved in the collision. The investigation revealed the collision took place in the eastbound lane. Newsom was headed eastbound and Broadnax was driving westbound at the time of the collision, according to the crash report Novay said. Report News:
