Byers athletes compete at state track meet By CLAUDE VINSON Head coach Sylvester Kilgore and four of his H.W. Byers track stars were at Pearl last weekend to participate in the annual state track and field trials. One of the qualified, senior Chris Wilson, who had earned berths in both the 100 and 200 meters in the North Half, did not make the trip. Sophomore Fred Jones picked up the bronze in the long jump. His distance was 22-5.5. Lady Lion Simone Ryan placed fifth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 4-6. According to her coach, Ryan had been jumping at 4-8 all season. Ryan is a junior. Shavetta Hill, a senior, placed seventh in the 800 meters. Coaches Kilgore, Thompson and Daniels accompanied the team to Pearl. Report News:
