Patriots advance to round two By

Hawks going to state meet Six Holly Springs High School Hawks are moving on to the state track meet this weekend in Pearl. Each finished in the top three at north half in Oxford. Desley Brown placed first in the 800 meter run (2:03). James Johnson took second in the shot put competition (48-00). Cordell Stephens finished second in the discus (135-00). Holly High’s 4x200 meter relay team placed third in the north (1:32). Team members are Justin Crumb, James Johnson, Darryl Kinkle and Brandon Thomas. The Hawks are coached by Clifford Brown. Patriots advance to state meet Marshall Academy will be represented at the state track meet this weekend. It will be held at Mississippi College in Clinton. The field events are set for Friday and the running events Saturday. Patriots are moving on due to their performances in the north half meet last week at Washington School (Greenville). Brent Adams will compete in three field events at state. Adams finished first in the north in the high jump (5-8); first in the long jump (19-6.5); and third in the triple jump (39-6). Gene Alexin placed third in the north in the high jump and also moves on to state. In running events, the MA 400 meter relay team placed first in the north (46.2). Team members are Hank Owens, Brent Adams, Wesley Harris and Gene Alexin. Jake Howell, usually a member of the 400 meter relay team, could not run in the event Saturday due to an injury in an earlier race, according to coach Keith Wicker. Mt. Pleasant team hosting big event The Mt. Pleasant Lions youth football and cheer organization presents a cheer/dance extravaganza. This event will be held on Saturday, May 5, at 11 a.m. in the H.W. Byers’ high school gymnasium. This event is open to the public with $5 admission fee. There will be entertainment provided by our cheer/dance squads, as well as food, fun, games, and guest performances. Registration information for both the youth football and cheerleading programs will be available on site as well as information about upcoming events. Potts Camp seniors sign with Northwest By BARRY BURLESON Two Potts Camp Cardinals are taking their basketball skills to Northwest Community College. Seniors Jacobye Davis and Justin Smith signed with the Rangers Monday morning in the new multi-purpose building on the Potts Camp campus. Report News:
