Acme Brick gets “pumped up” over 116th birthday and Earth Day
For most people and many companies, a birthday is an occasion that really gets them pumped up. Acme has taken the concept to a literal level by sending each of the company’s nearly 3,000 employees an Acme tire pressure air gauge to commemorate Acme’s 116th birthday on April l7 and in recognition of Earth Day, April 22. Company president Dennis Knautz views Acme’s birthday as an opportunity to remind Acme employees that everyone needs to keep their car tires properly inflated. Knautz said that, “keeping the tires on our personal vehicles properly inflated is another important way to be safe and environmentally responsible. Properly inflated tires also make our cars safer to drive because vehicles will handle better, especially in an accident avoidance situation. Further, it has been estimated that our nation could reduce gasoline consumption by three percent with properly inflated tires. That would put fewer pollutants into the air, and, if you fill up your gas tank once a week, properly inflated tires could amount to over $50 a year in savings at today’s prices.” The tire gauges, which are personalized with Acme Brick Company, were distributed to each Acme facility and its affiliated companies on Acme’s 116th birthday, April 17. Knautz added that he was encouraging all employees at each location to take a few moments on the company’s birthday and check his or her tire pressures. “Personally, I think this is a good way to celebrate our company’s 116th birthday and Earth Day by doing something that can benefit each of our lives, our nation, and the place we all call home.” Acme, America’s largest U.S. owned brick company, was established April 17, 1891.
