Suspects caught in weekend stabbing By SUE WATSON Two suspects were in the custody of the Memphis Police Department Tuesday, with extradition to Marshall County to face capital murder and aggravated assault charges expected soon, said Sheriff Kenny Dickerson.

Event honors veterans By SUE WATSON The first annual Veterans’ Appreciation Day will be held Saturday, April 21, at the Collins-Hurdle Post 5697 in Holly Springs. The doors are open from 2 p.m. through 6 p.m. and the general public is invited. There is no charge for admissions. The VFW will honor active and retired veterans as well as those who died in service to the nation. Taps will be played at the ceremony and a fly-over has been planned, according to Ronnie Luther, who is in charge of the music stage. State and local dignitaries with the National Guard, the VFW and government will participate in the program. Lt. Gov. Amy Tuck is slated to be present along with State Treasurer Tate Reeves. Local dignitaries will include Sen. Ralph Doxey and Rep. Tommy Woods, who are preparing the chicken and pork barbecue. All veterans and their families will be served free of charge. The public is invited to buy barbecue plates. All proceeds after expenses will go to local VFW charities. There will be moonbouncers for children and two bands performing throughout the afternoon. ARC announces grants competition The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) announced a grants competition this week to assist communities in leveraging renewable energy and energy efficiency resources to revitalize their economies.
