Parks celebrates 105th birthday By SUE WATSON
Elsie Parks got lots of attention Friday when Trinity Mission Health and Rehab celebrated her 105th birthday with cake and a dinner. She is the oldest member of First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant and the oldest resident at Trinity Mission. Parks is the mother of Franchelle Hilliard of Mt. Pleasant and the late Burleigh Parks, who retired with 25 years service at the Memphis Fire Department. She has lived at Trinity Mission since January 2004. Prior to that she lived with Hilliard in Mt. Pleasant since 1988. Parks was born in Hardeman County, Tenn., moved to Fayette County, then lived in Memphis before moving in with her daughter. Hilliard said she cannot forget her mother’s love and devotion to her children and her faith. “I can take these aches and pains, I’ll take what God puts on me because Christ was crucified,” Parks has said to her daughter. Hilliard said her mother’s life was built on love and she taught the precious things in life. “I just thank God for the way we were raised in our home,” Hilliard said. Parks was born April 12, 1902.
